When we are all feeling like a bit of comfort food my husband makes soda bread. Warm out of the oven we slather it with thick slices of butter and normally eat the whole loaf between the four of us in about half an hour.
It takes very little fuss, very few ingredients and 30 minutes in the oven.
Go on give it a go - I promise it will be worth it - just for smell !
RECIPE
6oz (170g) Self Raising Flour
6oz (170g) Plain Flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
290ml (1/2 pint) of buttermilk or yoghurt.
Combine to form a round loaf, place on a baking tray that has been 'floured', score the top with a cross to make it look gorgeous, then bake in a preheated oven at 200C for 30 minutes.
Try and not eat it within half an hour - bet you can't.
