A beautifully worked piece of narrative applique textiles.

We have bought this wonderful hand embroidery from a grassroots social enterprise based in Gujarat, a Trust that focuses on the preservation of the traditional crafts of Kutch. The narrative form is not a traditional art in Kutch, but a more contemporary artform that the artisans first experimented with personal expression in 2001. 

The narrative pieces are not seen as a substitute for traditional art, but an addition to it, and the pieces hold a place of pride in the hearts and minds of the artists. Themes vary widely – from simple events like a wedding in the family to complex ideas like the settling down of a nomadic people.

TO HANG : There is a slot of fabric at the top of the wallhanging which a wooden dowel runs through (this comes with the piece). The dowel then sits on 2 nails hammered into the wall.
