THE SPRING BIRD SERIES is a collection of painted glass birds, using variegated mouth blown glass by Stained Glass artist Jamie Clark. Traditional Stained Glass (leaded blown glass) is now on the endangered crafts list, so we felt it important to commission these pieces in appreciation of this ancient English Tradition.
Jamie says "Birds are a wonderful medium for carrying vibrant colour and the expressive mark making of traditional stained glass painting techniques. The imagery of birds in the form of coloured glass helps to forge the link between a traditional craft and the natural world."
The cutting and selection of beautiful blown glass is followed by staining and painting, which is then fired in a kiln. The 'silver stain' (from which stained glass gets its name) reacts with the glass at heat to produce a yellow hue. The darker painted lines are followed by a thin layer of glass paint that is brushed away to reveal the jewel like colour of the glass. It is literally like painting with light."
Leaded, with a copper loop for hanging at the top.
Birds are sold individually.
